Question : RE-APPOINTMENTS IN AIR INDIA



(a): whether the Government are aware that on one side Air India propose to reduce its staff strength and on the other side making appointments in the various departments and also sent VRS scheme to the Government for approval;

(b) if so, the facts and justification thereof; and

(c) the reaction of the Government on such action of Air India?

(a), (b) and (c): While Air India has taken various measures to rationalise manpower including freeze on external recruitment in non-operational areas, abolition of some vacant posts, reduction in age of retirement from 60 to 58 years, during the last two years, Air India have also effected 68 recruitments in critical categories in operational areas viz Trainee Pilots, Graduate Engineer Trainees, Information technologists (Trainee) etc. Besides, Air India had to regularise 256 Contractual/Casual workmen in various categories such as Safai Kamgar, Suraksha Kamgar,Casual Labourers, Canteen vendors, Gardeners etc. since 1998, as per various Courts Judgements. .
