Question : Upgradation of Railway Stations

(a) the number of major railway stations which have been modernized including the number of railway stations which have been proposed to be modernized in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan along with the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has performed quality check of the modernization works done at major railway stations in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan;

(c) if so, the names of the railway stations where quality check has been conducted including the names of the officials who have performed the said quality check along with the details thereof;

(d) the names of works found to be of inferior quality along with the action taken in this regard; and

(e) the work-wise details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.593 BY SHRI KANAKMAL KATARA AND SHRIMATI KESHARI DEVI PATEL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 01.12.2021 REGARDING UPGRADATION OF RAILWAY STATIONS

(a) Presently, Railway stations are upgraded/modernized under Adarsh Station Scheme based on identified need of providing better enhanced passenger amenities at stations. In the State of Uttar Pradesh, 152 stations have been identified for development under the Adarsh Station Scheme. Out of these, 134 stations have been upgraded/developed under this scheme. The remaining 18 stations are targeted to be developed/modernized in Financial Year 2022-23 under Adarsh Station Scheme. Similarly, in the State of Rajasthan, 40 stations have been identified for development under the Adarsh Station Scheme. Out of these, 38 stations have been upgraded/developed under this scheme. The remaining 02 stations are targeted to be developed/modernized in Financial Year 2022-23 under Adarsh Station Scheme.

Further upgradation/modernization of stations including platforms on Indian Railways is a continuous and on-going process and priority is accorded to higher category of stations over lower category of stations while sanctioning and executing the works depending upon need, volume of passenger traffic and availability of funds.

(b) and (c) Yes, Sir. Indian Railways has an inbuilt mechanism to check the quality of works, which is being performed at various levels by concerned Railway officials as per guidelines laid down in the Indian Railways Engineering Code, Indian Railways Works Manual and Specification etc. and the works meeting the laid down standards only are accepted.

(d) and (e) No major quality issues have been noted so far. The minor nature of inferior quality of incidences found during execution is corrected then and there. Instructions of inferior quality of work and corrective action taken thereon are recorded in Site Order Book and other documents.
