Will the Minister of Electronics & Information Technology be pleased to state:-
(a) whether 3,000 PhDs are being supported by the Government under the Scheme to enhance the number of PhDs in the Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Service (ITES) sectors;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the steps being taken by the Government to ensure that its goal of supporting 3,000 PhDs is fulfilled.
(a), (b), (c) and (d): Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India has launched “Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT” in 2014 for a period of nine years with the objective to enhance the number of PhDs in Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (ITES) sectors in the country. The scheme is designed to support 3000 PhDs (1000 Full Time & 2000 Part Time) in ESDM and in IT/ITES sectors. As on 11-07-2019, total number of beneficiaries under the scheme are 947 Full-Time and 250 Part-Time PhD scholars in 95 academic institutions across the country.
