(a) whether any scheme has been implemented by Airport Authority of India for the development and better use of information technology in civil aviation sector;

Statement in reply to parts (a), (b) and (c) of the Lok Sabha Starred Question No.340 for reply on 23.12.2004 regarding Development of I.T. by AAI.

(a):- Yes, Sir.

(b)and (c):- The details of schemes for development and better use of information technology and for the modernisation and promotion of Information Technology (IT) implemented by Airports Authority of India (AAI)particularly during the last three years are as under:

Launching of AAI web site LAN/WAN Project connecting all AAI locations in Delhi; LAN projects at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Guwahati; Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System on the software of National Informatics Centre (NIC) as per the guidelines of the Cabinet Secretariat; Enterprise level Inventory & Maintenance Management Application Package System in Delhi; Airport Information Management System at Hyderabad airport; On-line Project Monitoring System covering all major project in AAI; Air Traffic Billing System at 46 airports and Up-gradation of Auto CAD software and implementation of 3D MAX Studio and Revit Software for Architecture Department of AAI.

IT Directorate of AAI has already been accredited with ISO 9001-2000 Certification from 10.9.2004. Besides, Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) has been implemented for Cargo Management at selected airports. Implementation of Bar Code System for cargo terminals is in progress at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai airports. Computer based Flight Information Display System is also operational at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Trivandrum airports.

Future plans of AAI in this regard include implementation of IT Security Policy, Storage Network System for Common Storage and Mechanism for auto data storage & recovery, Disaster Recovery Site, Content Management System, Integration of various applications using common log-in plan, Introduction of Common User Terminal Equipment System (CUTE) at 16 major airports and Introduction of in-line baggage screening system at International Airports.
