Question : FOODGRAINS LYING IN OPEN



(a) whether foodgrains worth rupees 570 crores in lying in the open in various godowns of FCI due to which there is going to be loss of rupees 100 crores;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps being taken to shift foodgrains to covered storage?

(a),(b)&(c): Foodgrains worth about Rs.570 Crore are stored in the open in various godowns of FCI. Foodgrains are stored in the open when covered capacity is exhausted.

Necessary precautionary measures are taken to protect the stocks from deterioration. The stocks of foodgrains are stored on crates with proper preservation. These stocks are also liquidated on priority.
