(a) Whether the Government provide financial assistance to education institutions in the private sector;

(b) If so, the details in this regard and the terms and conditions laid down for this purpose; and

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (C) OF LOK SABHA QUESTION NO. 179 FOR 7TH MARCH, 2000 ASKED BY SHRI BRIJLAL KHABRI AND SHRI CHINMAYANAND SWAMI REGARDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PRIVATE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Central Government provides financial assistance to the eligible Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) including private educational institutions, under various schemes through different Ministries/Departments/Autonomous Organisations. The details of such grants spread over various Ministries/Departments/Autonomous Organisations are not maintained centrally. The terms and conditions in this regard are spelt out in each scheme. Generally, to be eligible for assistance, an organization is required to be registered and normally in existence for three years. The details of grants of Rs. one lakh and above to the eligible organizations are normally contained in the Annual Reports of the Ministries/Departments/Autonomous Organisations.
