(a) & (b) The Government of India encourages research in various areas of water resources. Important areas
for intensifying research efforts have been identified in National Water Policy which inter-alia include,
âwater harvesting and ground water rechargeâ and âwater conservationâ. Various techniques for rain water
harvesting have been duly identified which inter-alia include percolation tanks, check dams, recharge shafts
/ trenches/pits, sub-surface dykes, nala bunds, contour bunds, gully plugs etc. that are prevalent for
utilization of unutilized rain water.
(c) to (d) The programme for rain water harvesting and ground water recharge are implemented by the respective
State Governments. However, demonstrative projects in respect of rain water harvesting and ground water
recharge are also undertaken by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB). Details of funds released to the States
for rain water harvesting and artificial recharge to ground water by CGWB during the last three years and
current financial year is Annexed.
