Question : National Highways Connectivity

(a) whether the Government is considering to connect the tribal, backward and naxals affected areas with National Highways; and
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government in this regard and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) and (b) All the tribal and aspirational districts are connected with the National Highways (NHs) network. Development and maintenance of NHs in these districts are being taken up as per the traffic density, inter-se-priority and availability of funds.
Further for improvement of connectivity in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas, the Ministry took up improvement of road connectivity in LWE affected areas. Works involving improvement of 5,422 km of roads (1,177 km NHs and 4,245 km State Roads) were sanctioned. Out of these, works in 5,097 km length of roads have been completed. Entire program is targeted for completion by March, 2023.
