Question : POWER GENERATION TARGET



(a) the target fixed for generating more thermal and hydro-electric power during 2000-2001;

(b) whether any private sector participation has been encouraged to achieve the target;

(c) if so, the details therefor;

(d) whether any private sector power project is coming up in Talcher Coal belt of Orissa; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) : A target for additional generating capacity of 2263 MW thermal and 1297 MW hydro have been planned during 2000-01.

(b) & (c) : Till the end of October 2000, generating capacity addition of 495.2 MW thermal has been achieved in the private sector.

(d) & (e) : A 500 MW (2x250 MW) capacity Duburi Thermal Power Project is likely to come up in Talcher Coal belt of Orissa at an estimated cost of Rs.219153 lakhs. The project received techno economic clearance on 29th April 1999 but is yet to achieve financial closure.
