Question : Quality Test of Medicines

(a) whether the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has given its report mentioning that samples of several medicines taken in the month of August-September, 2019 including the medicines for heart and kidney problems, high blood pressure, thyroid, malaria, antibiotics and medicines for fever and pain have failed the quality test; and
(b) if so, the details of the said medicines along with the details of action being taken by the Government against these companies, company-wise?

STATEMENT REFFERED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (b) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 210 FOR REPLY ON 03.12.2019

(a): Details of drugs declared as spurious/ substandard/ adulterated/ misbranded by Central Drug Testing Laboratories are regularly uploaded on CDSCO website (www.cdsco.nic.in) under the heading "Drug Alert". Details of such cases of Not of Standard Quality for the months of August-September 2019 is enclosed as Annexure-A. These cases Include drugs for kidney problems, Thyroid and Malaria apart from antibiotics and also medicines for fever and pain, etc.

(b): Licence for manufacturing, sale & distribution of drugs are granted by the State Licensing Authorities appointed by respective State Governments. State Governments are empowered to take action on violations of any of the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules made thereunder. In all above cases, the State Drugs Controllers of the concerned State where the drugs were manufactured have been informed accordingly.
