(a) whether it is a fact that due to improper maintenance of Geotube on the sea shores of Kakinada in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh is being affected;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the corrective steps being taken in this regard?
(a)&(b) As per the information received from Water Resources Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, the total length of Geo-tube sea wall constructed was 1463 meters. After construction of the Geo-tube Sea wall in 2011, eight major Cyclones occurred during last eight years. After Hud-Hud Cyclone in October 2014, the protection wall got damaged on Sea side slope at certain places due to severity of sea waves. Since 2014 a total length of 1100 m sea wall along the Uppada village was damaged.
(c) Construction of Geotube is a specialized work and the material used in this is Geo Synthetics. Therefore, Water Resources Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh have got a preliminary survey done through an agency from Chennai&Department of Ocean Technology, IIT Madras in January 2019.
