Question : Gas Based Fertilizer Units

Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to revive fertilizer plants of the country as gas based units;

(b) if so, the present status of the Talcher fertilizer unit and the Sindri Fertilizer Unit thereof;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal for revival/re-start of Haldia and Durgapur Fertilizer plants and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) : Yes Sir, Government of India has mandated revival of (i) Ramagundam fertilizer unit to Joint Venture Company (JVC) of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Fertilizers Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) named Ramagundam Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (RFCL) incorporated on 17.02.2015, (ii) Talcher fertilizer unit to JVC of Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (RCF), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Coal India Limited (CIL) and FCIL named Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) incorporated on 27.10.2015 and (iii) Gorakhpur, Sindri and Barauni fertilizer units to JVC of CIL, National Thermal Power Corporation ( NTPC ), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), FCIL / Hindustan Fertilizers Corporation Limited (HFCL) named Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) incorporated on 16.05.2016. The capacity of each of these plants is 12.7 LMTPA. All above plants are gas based except TFL which is based on Coal gasification Technology.

(b) : The present status of the Talcher fertilizer unit and the Sindri Fertilizer units are as under:-

(c): In view of revival of units of FCIL and HFCL already mandated, there is no proposal to revive any closed fertilizer unit at present.
