Question : Improved System of Irrigation

(a) the details of the schemes being executed by the Government for providing improved system of irrigation to increase agricultural productivity;
(b) the details of the funds released for the purpose during the last three years, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government has any special irrigation schemes for the State of Bihar;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps being taken by the Government to strengthen the irrigation system across the country particularly in Bihar?

(a)& (b): Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is implementing Per Drop More Crop component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY-PDMC) which focuses on Micro Irrigation viz. Drip and Sprinkler irrigation systems.Micro Irrigation is an improved irrigation system which helps in water saving as well as reduced fertilizer usage through fertigation, labour expenses, increasing agricultural productivity and overall income enhancement of farmers.The details of Central Assistance released during last three years state-wise including Bihar under PMKSY-PDMC is Annexed.
(c) to (e): Government is implementing Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP)component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana with focus on faster completion of ongoing Major and Medium Irrigation projects including National Projects. This component is being implemented by Department of Water Resources, RD&GR. Under the programme, 99 prioritized Projects have been identified for expeditious completion of these projects including their Command Area Development & Water Management(CADWM) by adopting innovative funding through creation of ‘Long Term Irrigation Fund’ under NABARD.
Out of the 99 Projects, two Irrigation Projects namely Durgawati Reservoir Project and Punpun Barrage Project are in the State of Bihar. Central Assistance of Rs. 110.24 crore has been released upto March, 2021 under AIBP for these two projects. Besides Durgawati Reservoir Project is covered under CADWMfor which Central Assistance of Rs. 14.42 crore has been provided.
