Question : SETTING UP OF INDIAN INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY



(a) whether the Planning Commission has recommended for setting up of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and Indian Institute of Information Technology Academy in Gujarat; and

(b) if so, the response of the Government thereon and the time by when these institutions are likely to be established?

(a) & (b): The Planning Commission has agreed to the proposal of this Ministry to set up 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country during the Eleventh Plan. This Ministry is finalising the Detailed Project Report for setting up of these IIITs in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, as recommended by the Planning Commission. Details regarding places, time schedule etc. will be finalised after getting “in principle” approval of the Planning Commission on the DPR.
