(a) the order-wise names of most polluted cities of the country and their ranking in the list of polluted cities of the country;
(b) the existing level of pollution in each of the said cities;
(c) whether the Government have conducted or propose to conduct any survey in this regard;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to check the increase in pollution in these cities?

(a),(b),(c),(d)&(e) Polluted cities have been identified based on ambient air quality data obtained under the National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP) for the period 1995 to 2001. A list of such cities is enclosed at Annexure-I. The concerned State Pollution Control Boards/ Pollution Control Committees in Union Territories have been asked to identify the polluting sources, assess the pollution load and prepare city-wise action plans for control of pollution from various sectors including vehicles, industries and other sources.
