(a) whether the Prime Minister has written a letter to all Ministries to launch a special
recruitment drive to clear the backlog vacancies of SCs and STs;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the progress made in this regard, Ministry-wise, and
(d) the steps taken by the Government to clear the backlog vacancies?

(a)to(d): A Special Recruitment Drive was launched by the Government in August, 2004 to fill
up the backlog vacancies of SCs and STs. The Prime Minister wrote letters to the Ministers
in-charge of all the Ministries / Departments on 9.9.2005 urging them to monitor the progress
of the Drive.
Ministry/Department-wise number of vacancies filled is shown in the Annexure.
