Question : RATIO OF THE POPULATION VIS-A- VIS LENGTH OF NH



(a) whether the length of the National Highways in Kerala is less in comparison to the ratio of its population vis-à-vis the other States;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the status in other States; and

(c) the steps taken by the Union Government to reduce the said disparity?

(a) &( b): The length of National Highway per lakh of population in Kerala is 4.79 km., which is higher compared to some States and lower to some other States in the country. At present the All India Average is 6.5 km.

(c): The declaration of new National Highways is not based on the region, State, its area and population, but on the basis of laid down guidelines.
