(a) whether the Government has received the proposals for the opening up of branches of State Bank of India (SBI) in Ambagarh Chowki in Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh and Mehnazpur in Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh;
(b) if so, the details alongwith present status thereof; and
(c) the time by which the said branches of SBI are likely to become functional?

(a) to (c): The Reserve Bank of India has reported that there are 11 bank branches in
District Rajnandgaon, Chhatisgarh and 27 branches in Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh.
Further, State Bank of India (SBI) has already opened a bank branch in Mehnajpur, Uttar
Pradesh in November, 2009. As regards the proposal for opening of a bank branch in Chhatisgarh
at Ambagarh Chowki Rajnandgaon, a survey was conducted by the SBI. SBI has found the proposal
to be prima facie feasible once the security related concerns are addressed as District
Rajnandgaon falls within the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas.
