Question : Amendments Under FCRA

(a) whether the Government is considering to give exemptions for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) receiving donations and relief materials from overseas individual donors or donor agencies, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether it is also true that the Government had asked all States to involve NGOs, faith based organisations, religious and social trusts at local levels to handle the unprecedented Covid-19 crisis; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): No Such proposal is under consideration. Any NGO willing to do philanthropic work for social gains can apply 24X7X365 on the online portal for registration or prior permission of Central government to receive and utilize foreign contribution. Presently 22691 NGOs are already registered or granted prior permission by central government for receipt and utilisation of foreign contribution including relief supplies from foreign sources.
An Empowered Group on ‘Partnership with Private Sector, NGOs and International Organisations’ was constituted under the Chairmanship of CEO NITI Aayog to partner with States and District Administrations for COVID-19 related activities.
