Question : PRODUCTION COST OF SUGARCANE



(a) whether estimates of the cost of production of sugarcane has not been undertaken for the last three years;

(b) if so, the rules regarding estimation of the production cost of sugarcane alongwith the reasons for not complying with these rules; and

(c) the reaction of the Government in this regard?

(a) to (c): Under the Comprehensive Scheme for studying Cost of Cultivation of Principal Crops in India, estimates of selected principal crops including sugarcane are generated annually to facilitate the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP) for recommending the Minimum Support Prices to the Government. Latest available data of cost of production of sugarcane is for the year 2011-12. Based on the latest available data of cost of cultivation/ production, CACP projects the data for the current year.
