Question : Incomplete Hydro Power Projects

(a) the number of major hydro power projects lying pending along with the number of those which are incomplete in backward areas of the country;

(b) whether the Government proposes to formulate any action plan for completion of such incomplete projects given to non-government sector; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) : Presently, 36 Hydro Electric Projects (HEPs) (above 25 MW) with an aggregate Installed Capacity of 12673.5 MW are under development in the country, out of which 24 HEPs (9507.5 MW) are under active construction and on 12 HEPs (3166 MW) construction is held up due to various reasons. Out of these 12 held-up HEPs, 6 HEPs are in Private Sector. The list of these projects is given at Annexure-I(A) and Annexure-I(B) respectively.

(b) & (c) : Out of the 6 held-up Private Sector HEPs, 2 HEPs namely Rangit-II and Phata Byung have been taken up through National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for completion. Present status of these HEPs are given at Annexure-II. State Governments are also being requested to reconsider the Projects allotted by them to non-government sector and to allot them to Hydro CPSEs for expeditious implementation.
