Question : JUDO PLAYERS IN ASIAN COMMONWEALTH GAMES



(a) the number of Judo players sent in Asian Commonwealth Games by India during the last three years;

(b) the names of the States which were represented by these players;

(c) whether any player won any medal in Judo;

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(e) whether any reward etc. were given to them by the Government;

(f) if so, whether the Government propose to send these players in the Olympics; and

(g) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Eleven Indian Judo players were sent for participation in Asian and Commonwealth Games, 2002.

(b) The players belonged to various services such as C.R.P.F (5); B.S.F (1); I.T.B.P (1); Punjab Police (3); and Madhya Pradesh Police (1).

(c) Yes, Sir.

(d) Indian Judo players in the Commonwealth Games, 2002 won one silver medal and one bronze medal.

(e) Yes, Sir. Government provided Rs.15.00 lakhs for Silver medallist and Rs.10.00 lakhs for bronze medallist of Commonwealth Games, 2002.

(f) For participation in the Olympic Games, each player/team is required to achieve qualifying norms fixed by the concerned International Federation. The outcome will depend on the fixing of such norms.

(g) Does not arise.
