Question : Suggestions from Multi-National Food Processing Companies

(a) whether it is a fact that the suggestions from MNCs were not included in the country''s food policy including FDI policy in food processing sector and if so, the details thereof; and

(b) whether any complaint has been received regarding omission of suggestions from such companies in the Food policy and if so, the details thereof and the corrective steps taken in this regard;

(c) whether any hurdles were reported in charting out both short and long term plans with other stakeholders in the food processing sector in the country and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the details of edible Indian products which have been successful in obtaining GI identifications; and

(e) whether there have been efforts to earn corresponding ratifications from concerned agencies abroad at par with their prescribed norms and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): Policy(ies) on different sectors are formulated/ reviewed after intensive consultations with stakeholders including Ministries/ Departments concerned, apex industry chambers and other organizations. Views/ Suggestions received are considered by the Government and necessary amendments, if required, are made in the policy from time to time.
(d) & (e): The State-wise registration details of Geographical Indications (GI) applications are given at Annexure. No information regarding efforts to earn corresponding ratifications from concerned agencies abroad is available with this Ministry.
