Question : Special Assistance

(a) whether the State Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have recently urged the Union Government to make a provision for special assistance in the Union Budget 2019-20;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken in this regard;

(c) whether the State Government of Telangana has sought an assistance of Rs. 50 crore for each of the backward districts as promised under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and urged that the package be extended to all districts of Telangana State as the erstwhile 9 districts had now been divided into 32;
and

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken or proposed to be taken in this regard?

(a) & (b): Finance Minister of Andhra Pradesh requested various assistance for the State in the pre-budget meeting with the Union Finance Minister on 21.06.2019.

(c): No. While requesting release of 4th instalment of Special Assistance for the backward districts of the State vide DO letter No.21/CMO dated 26.08.2018, Chief Minister of Telangana had mentioned that with the re-organisation of districts, the number of districts in the State stands at 31 leading to increase in demand for developmental expenditure.

(d): Grants for backward districts of Telangana amounting to Rs. 450 crore for the year 2018-19 has already been released on 28.09.2018.
