Question : MILITARY TRAINING

(a) whether the Government propose to unify and co-ordinate the activities of NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Home-guards and Territorial army for National Defence;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government are considering imparting a compulsory military training to every able-bodied citizen of the country for conscription purposes;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the final decision is likely to be taken in this regard; and

(e) the names of the countries, where such policy of conscription has been in force?

(a) At present, there is no such proposal under consideration.

(b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.

(c) No, Sir.

(d) Does not arise in view of (c) above.

(e) The countries in which the policy of conscription is in force are the following:- France, Germany, South Africa, Vietnam, South Korea, North Korea, Israel, Ukraine, Italy, Portugal, Lithuania, Switzerland and Greece.
