Question : Allocation of Gas to Power

(a) whether more than 3000 Mega Watt gas based capacity remain idle/closed in the State of Gujarat due to inadequate availability of gas at affordable rate and if so, the details thereof; and
(b) whether the State Government has requested either to allocate Administered Price Mechanism Gas or provide subsidy on available gas in the market and to facilitate the power purchase agreement with Public Sector Undertaking and if so, the details thereof along with the response of the Government in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS (SHRI DHARMENDRA PRADHAN)
(a): As per available information, 3898 MW gas based power generation capacity is stranded in the State of Gujarat. The details are at Annexure-I.
(b): As per information provided by Ministry of Power, the Government of Gujarat has made a request on the issue related to support for running Gas Based Idle Capacity in the State of Gujarat. The State Government requested inter-alia to provide domestic gas for these Gas Based Idle Capacity.
Domestic gas is being supplied to the power sector as per current production levels. Domestic natural gas supply to power sector may improve in case production levels increase in future and as per the Gas Utilization Policy at that time.
