Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF (SHRI VISHNU DEO SAI)
STEEL AND MINES

(a)&(b): No, Madam. The gap between domestic demand and supply of steel is represented by imports. For total finished steel, imports (11.71 million tonnes) accounted for only 15% of domestic consumption (80.45 million tonnes) which implied that the major part was consumed from domestic production for sale (90.39 million tonnes).

(c)&(d): Yes, Madam. The Ministry of Steel has initiated the process of formulating a revised National Steel Policy.
