Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI ADHIR RANJAN CHOWDHURY)

(a) Indian Railways follows its own guidelines / policy in cases of floods and the norms of JNNURM are not applicable in Railway related works. Adequate measures are taken by railways in advance as per the prevailing guidelines to avoid/minimize damage to railway property due to floods. These include cleaning/ repair of waterways of bridges, providing additional waterways for bridges if required, cleaning/repair of drains, repair/construction of river training works etc. Monsoon patrolling is done in identified and vulnerable sections and stationary watchmen are deployed at vulnerable locations. Further, liaisoning is done with the concerned State Government Authorities and cleaning/repair of culverts/drains etc. outside railway’s jurisdiction (but affecting railway property) are also carried out by the concerned State Government authorities.

(b) Does not arise.
