Question : Vacant Faculty Positions

(a) whether a large number of faculty positions including post of Vice Chancellors are lying vacant in the Central Universities and Central Educational Institutions;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any steps have been taken by the Government to fill up the vacant posts in the Central Universities and Institutions; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d) : Presently, there are 41 Central Universities(CUs) under the purview of Ministry of Human Resource Development. At present, the posts of only 4 Vice-Chancellors, i.e University of Allahabad, University of Delhi, Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari and Assam University, are lying vacant.

Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission have repeatedly written to CUs and CEIs to expedite filling of vacancies and are continuously monitoring the progress. The progress has also been discussed in the Conference of Vice-Chancellors of the Central Universities held on 4th – 5th February, 2015 and Visitor’s Conference on 4th -6th November, 2015. Visitor’s nominees have also been provided to all Central Universities for Selection Committees for teachers, to expedite the selection process.
