Question : Green Bonus

(a) the criteria adopted for fixing of Green Bonus for the States along with the details of green bonus awarded so far, State-wise;
(b) whether environment and forests enrichment works undertaken in the State of Karnataka are lesser than those undertaken in other States; and
(c) if not, the reasons for giving less Green Bonus to the State?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE

(SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR)

(a)As of now, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has no scheme for grant of Green Bonus. However, the Fourteenth Finance Commission has considered the ‘forest cover’, in the devolution formula and assigned 7.5 per cent weight to the forest cover. The Government of India has accepted the recommendations of the Fourteenth Finance Commission.

(b) & (c) Each State carries out environment and forest enrichment works as per its plan and availability of resources, and these efforts are not comparable among different States. Since, there is no provision of providing Green Bonus to the States the question of giving less Green Bonus to the State of Karnataka does not arise.
