(a) whether some power transmission projects are being set up in the country at present;
(b) if so, the details of transmission projects being set up by the Government; and
(c) if not, the details of those projects being executed by the private sector, State-wise?

(a) to (c) : Transmission projects are planned, funded and executed by the Power
Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), the Central Transmission Utility under Central
Sector and State Transmission Utilities under State Sector. A list of transmission projects
being executed by PGCIL is at Annex.
The Electricity Laws were amended in 1998. Transmission projects can now be
undertaken by private transmission companies also either on a joint venture basis in
association with Central/State transmission utilities or independently by obtaining a
transmission license from Central/State Electricity Regulatory Commissions depending
on whether the transmission line/associated sub-stations are inter-state or intra-state.
In accordance with the above, PGCIL has already identified the transmission lines
under Tala Transmission System for evacuation of power from Tala Hydro-electric
Project in Bhutan (1020 MW) and other new generation projects in North-
Eastern/Eastern Regions, for execution through private investment under Joint Venture
arrangement, PGCIL has also decided to take up execution of 400 KV D/C Bina-Nagda
Transmission line in Madhya Pradesh under Hirma Thermal Power Project and 400 KV
D/C Nagda (Madhya Pradesh)-Dehgam (Gujarat) Transmission Line under Sipat Thermal
Power Project, under IPTC route (Independent Power Transmission Company).
