Question : Projects in North-Eastern States

(a) the number of projects sanctioned in the North-Eastern States during the last three years and the funds sanctioned for each of them, State-wise;

(b) whether any revised estimate has been made for the Department of Public Health Engineering in Meghalaya and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of schemes being implemented in Meghalaya along with their present status; and

(d) whether the contractors engaged for implementation of the schemes need to be approved by the Union Government and if so, the details thereof?

(a) During the last three years under the budget of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, a total number of 480 projects, with an estimated cost of Rs.4953.86 crore have been sanctioned. Of the above, 317 projects with an estimated cost of Rs.2276.44 crore have been sanctioned by North Eastern Council (NEC). The details may be seen at Annexure-I. Under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) scheme, the number of projects sanctioned stood at 163 with an estimated cost of Rs. 2677.42 crore. The details may be seen at Annexure-II.
(b) This Ministry has not received any revised estimates by Department of Public Health Engineering in Meghalaya.
(c) In Meghalaya, a total number of 120 projects are presently under implementation. Comprising of 72 projects with an estimated cost of Rs.415.75 crore sanctioned by NEC and 48 at an estimated cost of Rs.672.90 crore under the Ministry''s scheme of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources. The status of the on-going project is at Annexure-III.
(d) The contractors engaged for implementation of these schemes are approved by the competent authority in the respective State Governments.
