Question : New Medical Colleges

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has any proposal to setup New Medical Colleges across the country, if so, the State/UT-wise details thereof including Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra;
(b)the present status of construction/ operationalisation of each of the said medical colleges;
(c) the details of medical colleges sanctioned/ proposed to be setup in aspirational districts in the country, district-wise; and
(d) whether the Government has allocated funds for establishment of medical colleges in the States under Centrally Sponsored Schemes and if so, the State/UT wise details of the amount sanctioned and released?

(a) to (d) The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme namely ‘Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’ with fund sharing between the Central Government and States/UT in the ratio of 90:10 for NE/Special Category States and 60:40 for other States. A total of 157 medical colleges have been approved in three phases of the Scheme, including 40 in Aspirational Districts (AD). The State Government is the implementing agency under the Scheme. As on date, 43 medical colleges have become functional. Details are at Annexure-I, II, III.
