Question : AVAILABILITY OF OIL AND GAS



(a) the latest position of availability and potential of oil and gas exploration in the country;

(b) the total consumption of oil and gas in the country at present;

(c) the percentage of the total requirement of the country being met from the existing oil and gas reserves;

(d) the quantum of oil and gas imported in addition to the domestic production to meet the requirement during each of the last three years till date; and

(e) the details of foreign exchange spent thereon during the above period till date?

(a) At present, area under exploration is about 50% of Indian Sedimentary Basins. At the end of XI plan, area under exploration is targeted to cover 80% of total Indian Sedimentary Basins.

(b) The total consumption of crude oil (crude processing by refineries) and Gas during 2008-09 (provisional) was 157.1 Million Metric Tonne (MMT) and 37.343 Billion Cubic Meter (BCM) respectively.

(c) Domestic consumption as percentage of total domestic crude oil processed is about 18%. About 72.6% of the total requirement of gas in the country is being met indigenously.

(c) & (e) Details of crude oil & Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) import and foreign exchange spent thereon during the last three years are given as under :
