Due to enlarged duration of sugar season in some States, the sugar production in the country is higher than the installed capacity of the industry. There are a number of new and expansion projects still under implementation. With the implementation of these projects, the installed capacity of the industry is likely to go up further.
(d) & (e) : Each sugar factory is ear-marked a specific cane area by the respective State Governments from where they can source their raw material i.e. sugarcane. Sugar factories are having either direct contract with the sugarcane growers of their areas or through the cane cooperative societies wherever existing.
