Question : Irregularities under MGNREGS

(a) the quantum of funds released to Uttar Pradesh under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) during the last three years and the current year;

(b) whether complaints have been received from the State about non-payment of wages for works under MGNREGS and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether these complaints have been addressed and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the steps taken by the Union Government to ensure that necessity for lodging such complaints under MGNREGS do not arise in future?

(a): Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a demand driven programme hence no State/UT- wise allocation of fund is made. The Central funds are released to the States/UTs including Uttar Pradesh on the basis of agreed to Labour Budget and taking into consideration the performance and the pace of utilization of available funds. Details of amount released to Uttar Pradesh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) during the last three years and the current year (as on 24.01.2017) is indicated as under: -

(b) to (d): The Ministry, under MGNREGA receives complaints of irregularities including non-payment of wages for works etc. in many State/UTs including Uttar Pradesh. Since the responsibility of implementation of MGNREGA is vested with the State Governments, all complaints received in the Ministry are forwarded to the concerned State Governments for taking appropriate action including investigation, as per law.
