Question : EXTENSION OF SABARI RAIL TO TRIVANDRUM



(a) whether the Government has accorded necessary sanctions for the work of proposed Sabari rail from Angamali;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the present stage of the work undertaken;

(d) whether the Government received any request from the State Government for extension of Sabari rail to Trivandrum via Punalur and Nedumangad;

(e) if so, the action taken by the Government in this regard; and

(f) if not , the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Construction of new rail line from Angamali to Sabarimala is a sanctioned project. Keeping in view the recommendation of the State Government and Estimates Committee (2001-04) of Kerala Legislative Assembly, it has been decided to terminate the line at Azutha, short of Reserve Forest Area. Anticipated cost of this project is Rs.550 crore and an outlay of Rs.2 crore has been provided during 2004-05.

(c): Final location survey has been completed. The matter is being pursued with the State Government for land acquisition. So far, no land has been made available to the Railways.
