Question : Funds and Employment under MGNREGS

(a) the details of the funds released and utilized under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) Projects during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise and on going projects till October, 2021;

(b) the number of rural areas covered and employment provided under this scheme during the said period, State-wise; and

(c) whether the Government is contempleting to provide more funds to States who have over-spent/utilised all the funds on MGNREGS and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (c): Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage employment programme and funds are released to the States/UTs on the basis of "agreed to" Labour Budget (LB) and performance of the States/UTs during the financial year. Fund release to States/UTs is a continuous process and Central Government is committed in making funds available keeping in view the demand for work. The Ministry seeks additional funds as and when required for meeting the demand for work on the ground. Ministry of Finance allocated additional funds of the Rs. 10,000 crore for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS as an interim measure. Further, allocation may be made upon assessment of demand during the Revised Estimate (RE) stage.

State/UT-wise details of funds sanctioned/released for wage, material & administrative component under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in last three financial years (FY) and current FY 2021-22 (as on 24.11.2021) is given at Annexure-I.

State/UT-wise number of ongoing works under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in current FY 2021-22 (as on 31.10.2021) is given at Annexure-II.

(b): State/UT-wise number of rural areas (Gram Panchayats) covered and employment provide (persondays generated) under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS during the last three financial years and current FY 2020-21 (as on 31.10.2021) is given at Annexure-III.
