Question : ANIMALS IN CIRUCS



(a) whether the Government have banned the exhibition and performance of animals in circus;

(b) if so, the facts thereof;

(c) whether the Government are aware that the ban has resulted in closure of circus companies; and

(d) if so, whether the Union Government propose to relax the ban and instruct the Circus Companies to keep the animals in better and healthy atmosphere?

(a)&(b) The Government have banned five animals viz. bears, monkeys, tigers, panthers and lions for the exhibition and training as performing animals vide Notification dated 14.10.1998 (GSR.619(E).

(c) No, Sir.

(d) There is no proposal to relax the ban with regard to the banned animals used by the circus companies for exhibition and training.
