(a) the steel requirement of Railways for 2021-2022;
(b) whether the demand for steel by the Railways has been met by SAIL;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Railways had procured steel from Jindal Steel and Power Limited for the current year and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Ministry is of the opinion that additional steel needs to be imported to meet its demand requirements, and if so, whether any effort has been made by the Railways to import steel?

(a) The steel requirement of Railways (including 12.26 Lakh MT Rail) for 2021-2022 is 14.02 Lakh MT approximately.
(b) & (c) 100% Requirement of Rail is met by M/s SAIL. Demand of steel used for other than Rail purpose are being met partially by M/s SAIL and balance demand of steel used for other steel products are met by other indigenous producers of Steel.
(d) Yes, Sir. Approximately 2555 MT of steel has been procured from M/s JSPL in the current year.
(e) No, Sir.
