Question : SHARING OF INFORMATION ON KANISHKA INCIDENT



(a) whether it is a fact that the Government of Canada has not shared the information of a Report in regard to the tragic Kanishka incident;

(b) if so, whether the Government of India has raised/proposes to raise this issue with the Government of Canada; and

(c) If so, the reaction of the Government of Canada in this regard?

(a) On May 1, 2006, the Government of Canada appointed Hon’ble John C. Major to head a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the bombing, by terrorists, of Air India Flight 182 (Kanishka), which exploded in mid-air on June 23, 1985. The inquiry was completed in February 2008. The report of the Commission of Inquiry has not yet been presented by the Commission to the Government of Canada.
