(a) whether the State Governments of Maharashtra and
Assam have sent any proposals for setting up of Girls`
Hostel in economically backward blocks of these States;
(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the present
status of the said proposals; and
(c) the funds allocated for the same?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) & (c) The proposal for construction of 43 girls’ hostels
was received from the State Government of Maharashtra on
27.08.2010. Grant-in-Aid Committee (GIAC) in its meeting held
on 16.12.2010 had recommended 43 hostels in principle covering
all Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) in the State subject
to redesigning the hostels as per specified norms and
consideration of the financial sanction on revised cost
subject to approval by the competent authority. The State
Government has resubmitted the proposal with revised building
plan which is being appraised for release of funds.
Proposal for construction of 79 girls’ hostels was
received from the State Government of Assam in February, 2011
at pre-revised norms. As the revised norms for construction
of hostels have been approved by the competent authority in
May, 2011, the State Government has been requested for a
revised proposal which is still awaited.
