(a) Two apex level National Institutes, namely, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai and National Institute for Visually Handicapped, Dehradun are providing services in the area of education, training, rehabilitation and research for hearing impaired and visually impaired persons respectively. Besides voluntary organizations, are also assisted for providing services to the deaf, dumb and blind under the Scheme to Promote Voluntary Action for Persons with Disabilities. A statement indicating the number of such organizations assisted in various states during the year 2002-03 under the Scheme is annexed. Details of non governmental organizations funded for running such programme are on the website (www.socialjustice.nic.in) of the Ministry
