Question : Increase in Medical Seats

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of Government and private medical colleges in the country along with the Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) seats available therein, State/UT-wise;

(b) whether the Government has received any proposal to increase the number of seats in UG and PG medical courses including introduction of new courses in the existing Medical Colleges;
and

(c) if so, the details and present status thereof along with action taken for upgradation of infrastructures, work force and staff etc. in this regard?

(a): The details are given in Annexure

(b) & (c): Number of applications received for the academic year 2018-19 are as under:-

I. For establishment of new Medical Colleges -85
II. For increase of seats in UG Course - 20
III. For increase of seats in PG Courses (Broad Specialty) -361
IV. For starting PG Courses (Broad Specialty) - 570
V. For Increase of seats in PG Courses (Super Specialty) - 41
VI. For Starting PG Courses (Super Specialty) - 66

The last date for granting of permission in respect of PG Courses (Broad Specialty) is 28.02.2018. The last date for granting permission in respect of PG Courses (Super Specialty) and UG Course is 31.05.2018.

The Colleges desirous of stating new courses or increase in intake capacity are required to ensure requisite infrastructure, faculty etc. as per minimum standards prescribed through MCI Regulations for the purpose.
