Question : Drinking Water through Jal Shakti Abhiyan

(a) whether the Government has embarked on providing pure drinking water to rural households through Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA);
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(c) whether the Government has received any proposal in this regard for implementation in the State of West Bengal; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the quantum of funds being allocated to the State of West Bengal for the purpose, district-wise?

(a) to (d) Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) is a water conservation campaign launched by the Government of India to improve the water security in the country through 5 major interventions viz., water conservation and rainwater harvesting, revival of traditional ponds and lakes, reuse and recharge of borewells, watershed development and intensive afforestation. The campaign was run from July to November, 2019.
To enable every rural household in the country to have potable tap water supply in household by 2024, Government of India, in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal.
The State-wise allocation, release and expenditure under JJM for the year 2019-20 and 2020-21 including West Bengal is at provided at Annex– I & II respectively. The district wise details are not maintained by this department.
