Question : Processing of Moringa Products

(a) the list of food processing industries producing moringa products in Tamil Nadu, district-wise;

(b) the steps taken under the One District One Product Scheme in Karur District;

(c) the details of the amount of funds allocated and the number of beneficiaries under the scheme in Karur district; and

(d) whether the Government is planning to incentivise production of moringa powder in Karur district and if so, the details thereof?

(a): As per the latest Annual Survey of Industries (2017-18) estimates, 4952 food processing units were registered in Tamil Nadu. The product specific details are not reported in these surveys. Under the component scheme Creation/ Expansion of Food Processing/ Preservation Capacities of Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), two units for moringa processing has been approved in the country including one at Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu.

(b) to (d): Under the centrally sponsored scheme i.e., PMFME (Pradhan Mantri formulization of Micro food processing Enterprises), an allocation of Rs 125.10 crore has been made to Tamil Nadu for the current financial year 2021-22 for assisting the micro food processing units in Tamil Nadu. The fund is allocated at the state level under the scheme.

Under PMFME scheme, the support is given to upgrade existing units or setting up of new micro units for individuals in the form of the credit linked subsidy @ 35% of the eligible project cost with maximum grant of Rs. 10 lakh. Moringa is the approved product under the ODOP (One District One Product) component for Karur district. Any other food products processed by micro food processing units is also supported. In Karur district, 4 beneficiaries have registered.
