Question : ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN BY ROTARY CLUB



(a) whether his Ministry has roped in Rotary Club of India to help children who had stopped going to schools due to various reasons and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of children selected for this purpose;

(c) the amount incurred/to be incurred thereon;

(d) whether any time frame has been fixed to implement this initiative and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the other steps taken/being taken by the Gover- nment to help underprivileged children to pursue their education?

(a) to (e): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 217 TO BE ANSWERED ON 11TH MARCH, 2015 ASKED BY SHRIMATI SUPRIYA SULE AND SHRI DHANANJAY MAHADIK REGARDING “ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN BY ROTARY CLUB”

(a) to (d): The Rotary Club of India has offered to help in enrolling 1 lakh out of school children to schools. The programme is expected to cover mainly urban areas, within a period of one year. There is no financial implication for the Government of India in the above collaboration, though the Central Gove- rnment will facilitate the organization with the help of State Governments.

(e): The Government of India financially support States through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, inter alia, opening of new schools, special training for out of school children, free text books and uniforms, residential schools / hostels, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) as well as through the Mid Day Meal Scheme to help access and retention of children in schools.
