Question : Promotion of Fishery Sector

(a) the quantum of fish production during each of the last three years and current financial year in the country as on date, State-wise;

(b) whether there is any scheme for the development and improvement of export oriented fisheries produce across the country;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the details of the centrally sponsored schemes implemented in various States for promotion of fishery sector along with the funds allocated, released by the Union Government to various States including West Bengal and Karnataka and the amount utilized by these States during the last three years and current year, State/UT-wise;

(e) whether the Government has allocated sufficient amount for the welfare and safety of the fishermen of various States during each of the last three years and current year;

(f) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise; and

(g) the various steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to enhance the fish production?

(a): The State-wise details of fish production in the country during the last three years and the first quarter of Financial Year 2015-16 is at Annexure-I.

(b)&(c): Ministry of Commerce & Industry through the Marine Products Development Authority (MPEDA) is implementing various schemes for the development and improvement of export oriented fishery sector namely- Aquaculture, Capture Fisheries, Quality Control, Processing Infrastructure and Value Addition, Marketing and Ornamental Fish Development.





(d): The Department is implementing centrally sponsored schemes for promotion of fishery sector in the country including Karnataka and West Bengal, namely- “ Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture” and “ Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post Harvest Operations”. The State/UT-wise amount sanctioned/released and utilized during the last three years and current year under these schemes is at Annexure-II and III.

(e)&(f): Since the schemes for welfare and safety of fishermen are demand driven, the release of funds depend on the proposals received from the respective State Governments. The State/UT-wise amount released for Welfare and Safety of fishermen during the last three years and current year is at Annexure-IV and V.

(g): Considering the vast potential in fisheries sector, the Government proposes to lay special emphasis on development of inland and marine fishery activities to realize Blue Revolution in fisheries.
