THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES (SHRIMATI BIJOYA CHAKRAVARTY)

(a) to (d) As the river basin/sub-basin are natural hydrological units, Water balance studies, to identify whether a particular river basin/sub-basin is surplus or deficit in water, are carried at basin/sub-basin level. Ministry of Water Resources/Central Water Commission has prepared a National Perspective Plan (NPP) during 1980. Water balance studies for the basins/sub-basins/at diversion points have been carried out for Peninsular and Himalayan Components of NPP. Water balance studies of 137 basins/sub-basins and at 52 diversion points have been conducted under Peninsular Component while water balance studies at 19 diversion points have been conducted under Himalayan Component. Based on these water balance studies, interbasin water transfer proposals for surplus to deficit basins have been proposed. 30 water transfer links, 16 under Peninsular Component and 14 under Himalayan Component have been identified for preparation of feasibility reports. National Water Development Agency completed feasibility reports of 8 link projects.
