Question : MONITORING OF WATER QUALITY OF ACQUATIC SOURCES



(a) whether the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) monitors water quality of acquatic sources in various States, if so, the details thereof along with the pollution level in the Water sources, State/UT-wise including Karnataka; and

(b) the details of assistance provided by the Government to States to address the said issue?

(a) The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has established a network of monitoring stations on aquatic resources across the country including State of Karnataka, comprising of 2500 stations covering all States and Union Territories (except Andaman and Nicobar) under National Water Quality Monitoring Programme (NWMP). The State / Union Territory wise status of Water Quality Monitoring including State of Karnataka is given at Annexure.

(b) The Central Pollution Control Board has given financial assistance to 13 State Pollution Control Boards / Pollution Control Committees for “Comprehensive study for identified polluted river stretches envisaging assessment of polluting sources and estimation of pollution load reaching the concerned rivers”.
